The denizens of Chez Venza emerge from their slumber to express their World Cup Fever in the only way they know how – Pizza. Now that the U.S. and Colombia and a lot of other cool teams are out, it is safe to come out and say "Eu sou brasileiro, com muito orgulho, com muito amor."
The goal: make a pizza that looks like that darn Brazilian flag! Now, this is not a true Pizza Brasileira… that stuff is a whole ‘nother post. (They like them some different toppings!)
So for those of you who don’t know, here is the Brazilian Flag.
So, the immediate problem is, as Tom Colicchio will tell you, there’s no blue food.
Well… sorry Brazil, purple will have to be good enough!
These are Purple Potatoes, sliced thin and blanched. (Technically Purple Peruvian Potatoes… again, no offense Brazil!)
After rolling out the dough, we sprinkled mozzarella cheese directly on it and then put lots of pesto to form the green field. For the yellow diamond, we used jarred, roasted yellow bell peppers. There are also some green cherry peppers on there.
Then, to signify the globe, the purple potatoes!
And finally, a mozzarella equator. I tried to make a black olive puree to write “ORDEM E PROGRESSO,” but this was entirely too ambitious.
Triumphant and delicious! Vamos! Forca Brasil!
